Soulless place not 5 star
Not a 5 star hotel and in need of refurb/ updating. Bathroom old .Rooms lovely view and clean , just not up to the standard you would expect. Restaurant was like a factory canteen free for all! No atmosphere to the place cold and clinical. Sprawling no central hub. Would not return to this hotel.

Average, not 5 star.
Please don't book this hotel because it claims to be five star-it isn't, the honest opinion of a 76 year who has been travelling for 50 years plus are as follows. Firstly the pro's: 1. The hotel has a wonderful location with stunning sea views, the sunrises and sunsets from our eighth floor 'superior' room were amazing
2. The staff were outstanding, friendly, polite and helpful.
3. Convenient location on a bus route.
However
1. The hotel is dated throughout, old fashioned and badly in need of a refurb. The bathroom in our room was like something from a 70s porn set with mirrored walls and an antiquated shower head above a worn bathtub. The furniture was worn, cheap and tacky but the worst feature was the bed - it had the hardest mattress I have ever slept on which made my old bones ache so much I actually had to take painkillers each morning.
2. Breakfast was okay but the food at dinner was awful -repetitive and recycled, the same rehashed food would reappear almost every night.
3. This is a large hotel and the facilities are very spreadout, be prepared to do a LOT of walking between them and your room.
Overall, it's okay but only average - please don't book it for a special occasion, no way is it 5 star and you would be sadly disappointed.

Disappointing
As many have previously opined, this is not a 5 star resort. It is outdated, shabby and care worn. The only saving graces are the fantastic staff, the view and the location. The food offering was very disappointing, lack luster and often tepid or cold. When the hot question of the evening was whether the tomato soup was going to be on offer then you can guarantee your expectations are not going to be met. To add insult to injury, you were charged for water. Definitely not the Peninsular in Hong Kong or the George V in Paris. On a positive note, breakfast was acceptable. Would I return? No, not to this hotel or to the island as this was my second and final visit.

Wedding anniversary trip
We're do I start definitely not 5 star we had a premium room omg definitely not so dated bath had brown stains all over room was not clean I would never go back there we paid a lot of money for a weeks holiday for are wedding anniversary I just wanted to go home after two day the food omg it was terrible everything was cold only went there twice couldn't do so we just went out which was very expensive as we were half board staff didn't care I did say to them about the food they said maybe try desserts wow 5 star not

Disappointing experience - definitely not 5*
This hotel is definitely not a 5* experience.
First of all the positives:
The beds were extremely comfortable. The rooms were large with plenty of storage. Air con worked well. Beautiful views and rooms were quiet.
The bathroom towels were clean and of good quality. The shower was powerful (although not particularly user friendly being over a bath) and hot water was plentiful.
The safe was free of charge (sometimes hotels charge an extortionate amount for a facility which doesn't cost anything to run apart from a battery)
The drinks were reasonably priced.
The pool restaurant was enjoyable and seemed popular.
The pool sunbeds were comfortable and plentiful . The swimming pools were nice and it was a bonus being able to access the sea.
Suzie who was on the egg station at breakfast was a delight.
Now the negatives which unfortunately outweigh the positives:
The reception we received was not friendly - there was no welcome drink which you would expect at a 5* hotel. Staff were surly. Apart from a tiny piece of paper stating the restaurant times we were given no other information about the hotel. When we asked later about the spa, dining alternatives, timetable for water aerobics etc the information wasnt explained very well at all. There was no information in the rooms at all apart from the room service menu options.
The rooms were tired and dated, as were the bathrooms. The robes were past their best - washed out and the one which was meant to be white a dirty grey. The tea tray was poor - two or three teabags and a couple of sachets of coffee. No choice whatsoever. There was nowhere to plug the kettle in apart from on the floor. No mini bar and only one small complimentary bottle of water.
The pools themselves were nice but the area around them was just concrete. Some greenery or plants dotted around would have made such a difference. The restaurant chairs on the pool level were grubby and rusty.
The communal areas in the hotel were depressing. The decor was dark and uninspiring. The tub chairs were shabby. There wasnt really any nice place to sit together and enjoy the view. The entertainment was very uninspiring - apart from one night when there was a good trio of musicians, otherwise the atmosphere was totally lacking.
The restaurant was average. The food was okay generally. The waiting staff were not too bad at breakfast but the evening ones need some tuition. Every night without fail we had to eat our meal surrounded by the dirty plates from our previous course. There seemed to be no organisation whatsoever. Crockery and plates were dropped every night. All in all a disappointing experience - and an expensive one. There is scope to make so much more of the setting and the views but all in all the atmosphere was just depressing .
We would not recommend this hotel.

Bonne hôtel
• Les piscines avec la petite pataugeoire pour les petits.
• l’accès à l’océan
• personnel à l’écoute et sympathique
• le petit shop avec vente de boissons et des cartes postales.
• le fait d’avoir un petit frigo dans la chambre.
• 3 restaurants et un buffet pour la demi pension

pas trop aimé par rapport à la demi pension.
Oui il y a trois restaurant et un buffet.
Mais entre un des restaurants est fermé début de semaine, un autre le jeudi etc on se retrouve vite que tout le monde se « rue » sur le buffet quand il reste 1-2 restaurants ouvert ou que les horaires pour réserver dans le resto qu’on veut ne nous correspondent pas.

Semaine au Vidamar
Un hôtel très bien placé avec vue directe sur mer, sans route entre l'immeuble et l'eau. Rien qu'avec la vue, le séjour est déjà bien réussi. Les chambres sont spacieuses et confortables, avec un balcon côté mer. L'accueil est très agréable, la nourriture variée. Le centre de Funchal est accessible en bus (fréquents) ou à pieds en 25 mn. Nous retournerons dans cet hôtel pour la 9 ème fois en janvier 2025.

A very well located hotel with a direct sea view, with no road between the building and the water. With the view alone, the stay is already a success. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with a sea-facing balcony. The welcome is very pleasant, the food varied. The center of Funchal is accessible by bus (frequent) or on foot in 25 minutes. We will return to this hotel for the 9th time in January 2025.

Das Hotel sieht super schick aus. Die Lage ist toll. Die Zummer sind groß und geräumig. Der Meerblick grandios. Das Personal ist auch sehr freundlich. Allerdings finde ich 5 Sterne nicht gerechtfertigt. Ich habe mein Zimmer im 1. Tower über dem Empfang. Dadurch dass der Flurbereich offen in die Eingangshalle geht ist es spät abends und früh morgens sehr laut. Alles was da unten passiert bekommt man mit. Achtet darauf dass ihr im 2. Tower eure Zimmer bekommt. Die Matratzen, sind für meinen Geschmack, viel zu hart. Hab extrem rückenschmerzen beim schlafen. Aber dies ist meine persönliche Empfindung. Das Essen ist normaler Durchschnitt bis eher schlechter. Ich würde nicht wieder kommen, da ich dieses Standard von Häusern mit weniger Sternen als Normalzustand kenne und dann lieber wieder weniger Geld ausgebe. Empfangspersobal sollte auf die Lautstärke achten und auch beachten, dass die Tür zur bar geschlossen bleibt. Ach und noch ein negativer Punkt, leider, bei den zimmertüren kann man, wenn man geht, nicht die klinke runterdrücken. Dadurch muss man die Tür zuziehen. Was sehr laut ist.

Quasi rien à redire
Bel hôtel, bonnes chambres, bons repas, variés et changeants tous les jours, bon accueil par tout le monde et même quelquefois en chantant, facilité d'accés avec les busà moins de 2€ le ticket ou les taxis à 8€ par voyage .

Un'esperienza da rivivere
Struttura molto ampia ed organizzata che ha soddisfatto a pieno le nostre aspettative. Soggiornando una settimana abbiamo avuto la possibilità di visitare punti principali dell'isola con facilità grazie alla posizione ottimale della struttura, nonché l'isola di Porto Santo. Personale gentile e un particolare ringraziamento al Maitre di sala e soprattutto a Bruno, barman del Lisboa bar per la sua professionalità e gentilezza. Un caloroso saluto da Rocco,Chiara e Daniela dall'Italia. Ci ritorneremo presto sicuramente.

Décevant
Nous avons séjourné du 24 au 31 octobre 2023 dans cet hôtel. Le bâtiment est grand et moderne mais très austère, sans aucune âme. La décoration du nativement comme des chambres et minimale, en synthèse ça ressemble plus à un hall de gare qu’à un endroit dans lequel on est heureux de passer ses vacances. Il est important de préciser que les chambres communicantes (pour les familles) sont sur les 2 étages les plus bas ce qui signifie que vous ne verrez pas la mer même si vous avez loué des chambres avec vue mer, et oui il faut choisir soit c’est la vue soit c’est la famille. La chambre est immense, tout en longueur, avec peu de décoration et de mobilier qui est d’ailleurs très peu qualitatif, la salle de bain est d’une autre époque tout comme le matelas. La restauration est très moyenne, le buffet est plutôt proche d’un restaurant d’entreprise que de celui d’un établissement chic (5 étoiles) choisi pour les vacances. Les infrastructures là aussi sont laissées en l’état : salle de squash en piteux état, piscine intérieure salle, les piscines extérieures sont belles mais impraticables en cette saison puisque non chauffées. L’emplacement est très bien pour visiter l’île et faire quelques courses et restaurants à proximité. Nous avions chois l’hôtel sur la base des photos, je ne dirai pas que nous avons passé de mauvaises vacances mais il certain que si je devais à nouveau choisir, je ne réserverai pas dans cet hôtel.

5 * Niveau sieht anders aus !
Wir waren nun das 2. Mal nach 2017 im Vidamar Hotel und stellten fest:
" Das Hotel hat sich nicht weiterentwickelt ".
Unser Zimmer eine Juniorsuite groß und sauber jedoch in die Jahre gekommen. Der Speisesaal erinnert an eine Firmenkantine im do-it-your-self Service. Offensichtliche Personalnot. Fehlender Komfort und Wohlfühl- Momente vermissten wir in vielen Bereichen. Mangelnde Deutschkenntnisse runden unser Bild ab.

Sehr schöner Urlaub
Also wir waren von 31.8.23 - 07.09.23 in diesem schönen Hotel untergebracht.
Sehr schöne Zimmer und sehr sauber. Wir haben bei der Ankunft gefragt ob wir eventuell ein Zimmer in einem höheren Stockwerk bekommen könnten wegen dem wundervollen Meerblick, obwohl wir schon ein Zimmer hatten und wir haben dann sogar eines bekommen- Top!
Das Personal ist sehr nett und zuvorkommend!
Wenn man ein Mietauto hat kann man sich in die Hoteleigene Tiefgarage stellen.
Das Essen am Buffet war sehr lecker und es wurde jeden Tag frisch gekocht. Die Auswahl ist sehr groß sodass man sich jeden Tag aufs neue etwas findet! Ausserdem gibts ja noch 2 Restaurants wo man a la cart essen kann.
Der Meerzugang ist sehr einfach über ein paar Stufen bzw einer Leiter zu erreichen! Ausserdem wird die Poolanlage und der Meerzugang von Lifeguards überwacht - hat mir persönlich im Atlantik doch noch ein bisschen mehr Sicherheit gegeben!

Alles in allem sehr sehr schönes Hotel und ein toller Urlaub!

Gutes Hotel mit tollem Ausblick
Schönes Zimmer mit Balkon und traumhaften Ausblick aufs Meer, sehr gutes Wlan, das gesamte Personal war zuvorkommend und freundlich, wenn gewünscht wird das Auto geparkt. Zu Essen gab es ein großes Buffet und eine live Kochstation mit unterschiedlichen Themenabenden, leider war das Fleisch oft zäh oder nicht richtig durchgebraten (Huhn) - Frische Pasta war jedoch gut!

Im Momentanen Zustand keine 5 Sterne!!!
Fünf Sterne schauen anders aus! Bei Frühstück und Abendessen gibt es keine Tischtücher. Die Tische werden notdürftig abgewischt. In Zeiten nach Corona nicht zu akzeptieren. Auf den Sesseln liegen die Bröseln der Vorgänger. Absolut unmöglich! Die Buffetts sind maximal auf 4 Stern Niveau. Die ganze Anlage liegt sehr schön auf der Klippe, ist aber schon etwas in die Jahre gekommen. Die Zimmer sind sauber, aber schon sehr abgewohnt. Fünfsternbewertung weiterhin? Da bedarf es dringend einer Generalsanierung!

Ho solo pranzato
Preciso che non sono stato ospite della struttura alberghiera, ho solo pranzato per alcuni giorni, in occasione di un convegno internazionale.
La struttura è molto grande e sembra essere ben organizzata e pulita. Per i miei gusti un tantino fredda. Il pranzo un'esperienza pessima. In un 5 stelle dovrebbe esserci una cucina di altissimo livello e a dispetto della presentazione la qualità del cibo era veramente scadente. Capisco che si trattava di pranzi di lavoro e il buffet è il modo più veloce per il servizio, però nella mia esperienza, si mangia meglio in certe mense aziendali. Forse noi italiani siamo molto esigenti, ma vedere gli spaghetti in un unico blocco gommoso e appiccicaticcio, non è certo uno spettacolo attraente. I dolci non capisco chi glieli prepari. In altre recensioni ho visto lo sconcerto di certe gelatine rosse che forse non gradiscono nemmeno i bambini. Infine il caffè... Ma le volete mettere le tazzine per l'espresso o devo berlo nelle tazze del latte? In un 5 stelle dovrebbe essere rappresentato il meglio dell'offerta culinaria e del servizio a livello mondiale. Così non è e credo che questo penalizzi molto la struttura. Il giudizio è severo perché ritengo che l'approccio verso i clienti sia stato improntato a superficialità e mancata conoscenza dei gusti dei propri ospiti.

Buono, ma non eccezionale
Come si intuiva dalle precedenti recensioni, la struttura, pur avendo 5 stelle, pare puntare più alla quantità che alla qualità (ed in effetti, perlomeno per quanto abbiamo pagato noi, ha un prezzo abbastanza competitivo). Il resort è enorme, ha degli spazi comuni molto ampi (lounge, bar, giardini, aree biliardo, piscine) e offre tantissimi spazi per attività di vario tipo (incluso lo squash). Partendo dalla stanza, noi avevamo una superior con vista frontale (e non laterale) sull’oceano. La camera era molto ampia, con un letto molto grande, un ampio bagno (doppio lavandino e perfino il bidet), un nell’armadio e una zona salotto (con divano e tavolino); era incluso un piccolo frigo (vuoto), utilizzabile con bevande e alimenti propri, oltre ad un bollitore con tè e caffè (gratuiti). Meraviglioso il balcone con vista sull’oceano: se vorrete alloggiare qui, consiglio assolutamente di prendere la camera con vista frontale. L’unica pecca della stanza: gli arredi sono un po’ datati (e rovinati), andrebbero sostituiti. La zona piscine è molto grande, ci sono tre piscine esterne (più una baby) con accesso diretto sul mare (tramite piattaforma), che non tutti gli hotel possono vantare. La piscina interna è piuttosto piccola e ricavata da una zona un po’ buia, non un granché (così come l’unica sauna finlandese liberamente accessibile, posta nella stessa zona). Molto bella e ben curata, invece, la Thalasso Sea Spa, con piscina, sauna, bagno turco e un ottimo centro massaggi: l’accesso, però, è limitato, a pagamento (o comunque non incluso in tutti i pacchetti) e rigorosamente dietro prenotazione. Per i massaggi/trattamenti consiglio la prenotazione molto anticipata, perché abbiamo rischiato di non poterne usufruire (abbiamo trovato un unico posto libero pur alloggiando per le successive 5 notti). Per la nostra esperienza, il vero neo del resort è rappresentato dal “ristorante”, cui avevamo accesso avendo la mezza pensione. Più che un ristorante, si tratta di una vera e propria mensa, con tutte le conseguenze del caso, soprattutto in termini di qualità, decisamente mediocre e non degna di un cinque stelle (nemmeno di un 4, per la verità). Leggermente migliori i ristoranti alternativi (soprattutto quello portoghese, quello italiano di italiano ha solo il nome), ma comunque ben al di sotto della media dei ristoranti portoghesi e anche di quelli che si trovano nei pressi del resort. Ultimo lato negativo: il wi-fi. La copertura è praticamente inesistente e, anche dove prende, la connessione è come se non ci fosse. Per fortuna avevamo una scheda dati portoghese, altrimenti saremmo stati senza internet. Assolutamente inaccettabile in un hotel 5 stelle.
In conclusione: è un bel posto (e “comodo”, soprattutto per famiglie), con buoni servizi e un’ottima posizione fronte oceano. Certamente, però, non è nulla di eccezionale né di esclusivo.

Fantástico
Fantástico resort, trato excepcional y habitaciones muy limpias y acogedoras, con nosotros tuvieron un detalle muy bonito, ya que veníamos de luna de miel, nos dieron una habitación con unas vistas espectaculares amplia y preciosa, muchísimas gracias al hotel por el detalle que tuvieron con el champagne y las fresas con chocolate, siempre seréis parte de nuestra historia!!!os lo recomiendo 100%

Un trato exquisito

Buen hotel y personal muy amable
Está muy bien situado y tiene buenas instalaciones.
El personal es muy amable y detallista, siempre dispuesto a ayudar. Reservamos hora para un masaje y comentamos que era nuestro aniversario de boda. Al subir a la habitación teníamos una botella de espumoso y unas fresas con chocolate, con una bonita nota de felicitación.
El masaje, muy profesional y el spa muy agradable, a pesar de que algunos servicios estaban cancelados por el Covid.
Muy recomendable.

Estupenda experiencia en familia
Grata sorpresa nos ha dado la Isla de Madeira; su clima y el maravilloso paisaje tropical nos han enamorado. El Hotel Vidamar un acierto, sobre todo por la opción de habitaciones comunicadas, que en nuestro caso que somos familia numerosa y con niños pequeños, esto es cada vez más complicado. Además cuenta con acceso directo al mar y varias piscinas de agua salada. El buffet exquisito y muy variado. Un pero, la animación infantil, prácticamente inexistente pero igualmente recomendable. Para repetir!!

Come da titolo questa recensione solo per dire che la pizza servita qui è una delle peggiori mai mangiate nella mia ...persino in Korea ho mangiato pizze migliori, non ci siamo proprio, inoltre personale scortese e altezzoso.

Hotel grande e dispersivo
L'hotel è veramente molto grande, troppo. Sembra di essere su una nave da crociera. Avevamo prenotato 2 camere vista mare laterale, a noi è capitata una camera vista mare frontale con terrazzo spettacolare, e di questo non abbiamo da lamentarci anzi,,, alle nostre amiche è stata assegnata la camera vista mare laterale, purtroppo non era altro che una camera vista giardino e il mare forse lo si poteva intravedere tra le foglie. Direi che non si possono definire certe camere vista mare laterale ma devono essere vendute come vista giardino. Camere comunque enormi e pulite.Bella la sala colazione e i giardini circostanti La cena è di tipo internazionale, tanta roba,tanto fumo e poco arrosto, da non paragonare alla cucina dei ristoranti di Funchal, non la consiglierei agli italiani. Abbiamo chiesto del vino a tavola e non ci è neanche stato proposto una lista e soprattutto abbiamo saputo il costo al momento del conto e inoltre in un 5 stelle pretenderei almeno una tovaglia al tavolo.
Molto belle le piscine, a filo del mare, però molto lontane dalla struttura, quindi per raggiungerle ci va molto tempo, corridoi, ascensori ecc.
Struttura veramente molto grande e dispersiva, tanti spazi nelle hall inutilizzati. Clientela tipicamente anglosassone
